Settlement // Ideological Institution

Reconstructed
Order

An institution built twice from the same catastrophe.

Founded on Terra after the Apoklysmus, the Order began as Boris Vel Orun’s rejection of technological civilization. Its modern form preserves the warning while replacing prohibition with human control.

From rejection
to restraint.

Technology must remain under human control.

Boris Vel Orun founded the Order in 82 AO after the destruction of Olympos. His original doctrine was absolute: technology itself would cause another Apoklysmus and should be eliminated from the Settlement.

Krastan Vel Orun reconstructed that radical inheritance into the doctrine the institution presents today. Technology may serve humanity, but no machine may hold power or make consequential decisions without a human remaining in control.

Seniority without
command.

The Order recognizes only three internal stages. An Aspirant is a recommended candidate serving a one-year probation. A Caretaker is a full member bound by oath. The First Protector is simply the longest-serving Caretaker still active.

These titles do not form a command chain. No member—including the First Protector—can formally order another Caretaker to act. The institution works through mutual support, accumulated favors and the obligation to repay help received.

Invitation.
Proof. Obligation.

Membership begins only through the recommendation of an existing member. After one year as an Aspirant, a candidate may take the Caretaker’s oath: secrecy, mutual support and repayment of assistance through an appropriate return.

Any Caretaker may veto admission when a substantive reason is given. The oath creates lasting reciprocal obligations, never subordination to a superior.

No parallel command.

Individual Caretakers hold senior positions across the Settlement in politics, administration, commerce, science and the military. Their personal obligations create access and influence, but not institutional control.

Krastan’s public use of First Protector of the Reconstructed Order is a deliberate break with its tradition of invisibility. Other Caretakers consider it a risk; Krastan treats the Order’s historical reputation as political legitimacy. The title gives him prestige—not authority over them.
